Battery lights
Thirty-seven light sets that run from a battery box, for a wreath, a garland, a mantelpiece, a window with no socket, or a porch where a cable would be a trip hazard. Thirty-six are rated for indoor and outdoor use, nearly all have a six-hour timer, and the 100-LED sets start at £4.99.

Where a battery set makes sense
Anywhere the nearest socket is across a room or outside. A front-door wreath, a garland on the stairs, a mantelpiece, a shelf, a jar, a window on an upstairs landing, a child's bedroom where a trailing cable is a worry. Outside, a battery box in a weatherproof housing lights a wreath or a bay tree without running a cable through the door.
Timers
Almost every set here has a timer: set it at dusk and it gives six hours of light, switches off, and comes back on at the same time the next evening. On three AA cells a 100-LED set runs most of December on one set of batteries; a 200-LED set wants fresh cells halfway through. The timer is what makes a battery set practical rather than a chore.
Counts and colours
A 100-LED set lights a 60cm wreath or a 1.8m garland. A 200-LED set lights a 2.7m garland, a small tree or a window. Multi coloured leads (11 sets), then warm white, white and vintage gold. Most have multiple modes and a static setting.
Batteries and boxes
Batteries are not included. Each product page lists the type and the number, usually three AA. The battery box on the outdoor sets is sealed; stand it on its side so rain runs off, or put it in a DriBox from the accessories section.
Common questions
How long do the batteries last?
A 100-LED set on three AA cells runs about four to six weeks at six hours a night on the timer. A 200-LED set needs a change midway through December.
Can battery lights go outside?
Thirty-six of the 37 sets are rated indoor and outdoor with a sealed battery box. Keep the box upright or in a weatherproof housing.
Are the batteries included?
No. The listing states the type and count, usually three AA.
Do they have a timer?
Nearly all do: six hours on, eighteen off, repeating daily from the time you switch them on.
