Picks, flowers and scents
The thing an artificial tree lacks is the smell, and this is the fix: Scentsicles are scented paper sticks that hang inside the branches and release pine, fir or cinnamon for a month. Four scents from Premier, six sticks a tube, £6.99.

Scentsicles 'O Christmas Tree' Scented Christmas Tree Hangers

How Scentsicles work
Each tube holds six scented sticks with a wire hook. Hang them deep in the branches of the tree, spaced out from top to bottom, and the scent comes through for about four weeks. Six sticks does a 6ft tree; use two tubes on a 7ft or 8ft tree or if the room is large. The sticks are paper and release scent without liquid, so nothing drips on the floor or the presents.
The scents
White Winter Fir is the closest to a cut Nordmann fir and the one most people buy. O Christmas Tree is a sharper pine. Spiced Pine Cone adds clove and orange to the pine. Cinnamon is a warm bakery scent for a hall or a kitchen rather than the tree itself.
Beyond the tree
A stick in a wreath by the door greets visitors with pine; one in a garland on the stairs scents a hall; one hung in a car does the same for a month. They work in any artificial foliage.
Common questions
How long does the scent last?
About four weeks from opening the tube, which covers December if you hang them in the first week.
Are they safe with pets?
They are paper sticks with no liquid and are hung out of reach inside the branches. Keep the unused tube sealed and away from animals.
Can I use them in a real tree?
Yes, though the point is to give an artificial tree the smell a real one has.
How many for an 8ft tree?
Two tubes, twelve sticks, spaced through the branches.
