Decorated or plain
A decorated wreath is finished out of the box: pine cones, berries, frosted tips and a bow, all wired on so they survive the wind. Pick one if the wreath is going up the day it arrives. A plain pine wreath is a dense green base at the lowest price, and it is the choice if you want to add your own ribbon, dried oranges or a light set, or if the door already has a strong colour.
Colours
Green with red berries is the traditional door. Green and white, with frosted tips or white berries, suits a grey or white door and a modern frontage. The rose gold and navy-and-gold wreaths are for a dark door or a window seen from inside. The grey snow-fir wreath matches the grey trees.
Size
The listed diameter is the outer edge of the foliage. For a standard door choose 50cm to 55cm; for a double door or a garage, 60cm; for a window, a flat or a narrow cottage door, 45cm. A wreath that is too small looks like a decoration; one that is right looks like part of the door.
Adding lights
A 100-LED battery set with a timer, wound through the foliage with the box behind the bow, lights any wreath here for the season. Pick warm white for green and red, white for frosted and grey, and tuck the box where the door frame hides it.
