Christmas trees

Unlit artificial trees

Twenty trees sold without lights, for people who already own a good set or want to choose the colour themselves. Five each at 5ft, 6ft and 7ft, three at 8ft, from £69.99 to £399, all with hinged branches and a metal stand.

The cheaper way to buy the same tree

An unlit tree is typically £40 to £80 less than the pre-lit version of the same model, and a 1,000-LED set of tree lights costs £24.99. For most 6ft and 7ft trees that makes the unlit route cheaper even after buying lights, and it leaves you free to pick warm white, multi coloured or vintage gold rather than whatever the factory fitted. It also means a failed light set is a £25 replacement rather than a tree section.

What is in the group

These are the shop's traditional trees: pines with cones and berries wired in, spruces with layered PE tips, and firs with a dense PVC core. Seventeen are green; two are a deep midnight blue, which takes silver and white decorations well. The 6ft Ben Nevis Pine with pinecones and red berries at £159 and the 5ft New Jersey at £79 are the two most ordered. Every tree here hinges: the branches are fixed to the trunk and fold down, so assembly is a matter of standing the sections and fluffing the tips outward.

Reading the tip count

Because there are no lights to distract the eye, density matters more on an unlit tree. At 6ft, 500 tips is a lighter tree that suits a lot of decorations; 900 to 1,200 is full enough that the trunk is hidden from any angle. The 8ft trees carry 1,500 tips and upward. Compare the count within the same height rather than across heights.

How many lights to add

The usual guide is 100 LEDs per foot of height, so a 7ft tree wants about 700 and a 5ft tree about 500. Cluster lights look fuller with fewer bulbs because the LEDs sit close together on a short branch of cable. The tree lights section lists sets by bulb count and colour, and the lit length on each set tells you how far it will wrap.

Common questions

Does an unlit tree come with a stand?

Yes. Every tree in this group ships with a metal stand sized for it. Wheeled stands and decorative skirts are sold separately.

Which lights suit a 7ft unlit tree?

A 700 to 1,000 LED set, or a 720 cluster set for a denser glow. Warm white suits the pine and spruce greens; the midnight blue trees look best with white or ice white.

Are the branches PE or PVC?

Most are a mix: moulded PE tips on the outside for realism and PVC needles inside for fullness. The product page states the material where the maker publishes it.

How big is the box?

A hinged 6ft tree packs to roughly 120cm by 40cm by 35cm. The 8ft trees ship in two boxes and go by two-person courier, still free of charge.

Free UK delivery

Every order ships free to any UK mainland address. Trees over 7ft and large displays go by two-person courier or pallet, still at no charge.

Sized before you buy

Every tree lists its height, width and tip count. Browse by height, price or colour and compare like for like.
