Finding the right tree in a range of 166
A long list of trees is only useful if you can cut it down fast. This department can be sliced four ways. The height filter on the left narrows to one size; the height pages do the same with a note on ceiling clearance. The price bands run under £50, £50 to £100, £100 to £200 and £200 and over, and every figure already includes VAT and delivery. The colour pages separate the 57 green trees from the snowy, white, black and grey ones. And the subcategories above the grid split the range by construction: pre-lit, unlit, snowy and flocked, slim and pencil, fibre optic, tabletop and twig.
What the numbers on each tree mean
Height is measured from the floor to the top tip with the stand fitted. Width is the diameter at the widest point, usually the bottom ring of branches; a full 6ft tree is around 1.2m across, a pencil tree under 60cm. Tip count counts the ends of the branches. It is the figure that tells you how dense the tree is at a given height: around 500 tips at 6ft is a standard tree, 1,200 is full, and anything past 2,000 is very full and heavy. Branch material is either PE (moulded from a real branch, used for the outer tips on realistic trees), PVC (cut foil, cheaper and good for bulk inside the tree) or a mix, and the listing says which.
Pre-lit, unlit and lit by design
Thirty-eight trees arrive with the lights already wired through the branches, most of them warm white and most with a mains transformer; two run from batteries. Twenty are unlit, which is the cheaper way to buy the same tree if you already own lights or want a particular colour. Thirty-eight more are twig, microdot and dewdrop trees where the lights are the point: a bare white or black frame carrying up to 1,700 LEDs, used as a second tree in a hall or on a porch. Fibre optic trees light from the trunk outward and change colour through a cycle.
Suppliers
The trees come from Festive (112 of them), Premier Decorations (33), Snow Time (14) and Lumineo, all established UK seasonal suppliers. The brand is on every card and the maker's own code is on the product page, so a tree can be checked against the same model elsewhere before you buy.
Delivery and returns on trees
Delivery is free to any UK mainland address whatever the size. A 6ft hinged tree ships in one box by tracked parcel; 7.5ft and 8ft trees and the heavier pre-lit pines go by two-person courier, still free. Trees can be returned within 14 days of delivery if they are complete and repacked; anything damaged in transit is replaced at our cost.
Common questions
What is the most popular height?
6ft and 7ft between them account for 50 of the 166 trees and are the sizes most living rooms take. 5ft is the next largest group, for lower ceilings and smaller rooms.
Do all the trees hinge?
Most trees of 5ft and over have hinged branches that fold down from the trunk in two or three sections. Some smaller and some budget trees use hook-on branches, which pack smaller but take longer to assemble. The product page states which.
Are the trees fire retardant?
Artificial foliage from these suppliers is made from materials tested to the EN 71-2 flammability standard, but no artificial tree should be placed near candles, an open fire or a heater. Pre-lit trees use low-voltage LEDs that run cool.
How long will an artificial tree last?
Seven to ten years is a fair expectation for a tree stored dry and handled gently, and the better PE trees last longer. On a pre-lit tree the lights are the part most likely to fail first, which is why replaceable sections matter.
Which tree is best for a small flat?
A 4ft or 5ft slim tree takes a 60cm footprint and still carries a full set of baubles. For a desk or sideboard, the tabletop trees are 60 to 90cm tall and many run on batteries.
