The 4ft nutcracker guards

Two 4ft nutcrackers flanking a front door, a hearth or the bottom of the stairs is the indoor display that gets the most comment for the money. They stand 120cm on a weighted base, carry warm white LEDs in the braid and buttons, and come in three colourways: traditional red and black, gold and silver, and navy and gold. Each is £99 and most people buy two. They are indoor pieces; a sheltered porch is fine, open weather is not.

Standing Santas

The 60cm Luxury Standing Santa at £24.99 is the table-height figure for a hall table or a shop counter. The 1.1m Luxury Giant Standing Santa at £44.99, listed under giant props as well, is the floor-standing version for a hallway or a reception.

Smaller nutcrackers

Twenty-five to forty centimetre nutcrackers in painted wood and resin go on a mantelpiece, a windowsill or a bookshelf, and are the pieces collected one a year. Colours run from traditional red to brown and blue and white and blue.

Power

The lit figures run on batteries, three AA, with a timer. The unlit figures need nothing.

Are the nutcrackers lit?

Can a nutcracker stand outside?

In a sheltered porch, yes. They are not rated for rain.

Do they tip over?

The 4ft guards have a weighted base and stand on a flat floor. Keep them away from a door swing.
