The eight styles the range is built from. Pre-lit trees arrive with the LEDs wired through the branches. Unlit trees are the same trees without lights, for people who already own a set. Snowy and flocked trees wear a white coating. Slim and pencil trees keep the height in half the width. Fibre optic trees light through the tips and change colour. Tabletop trees are under a metre. Choosing between the types
For a main tree in a living room, the choice is pre-lit or unlit, and it comes down to whether you would rather pay £40 to £80 more for the lights fitted or spend twenty minutes wrapping a set you choose yourself. For a hall or a narrow corner, a slim or pencil tree. For a bedroom, a landing or a care home room, a fibre optic or tabletop tree that runs from one plug. For a doorstep or the porch, an outdoor-rated twig or microdot tree. For a winter look, a snowy tree, which is the group with the most 7ft and 8ft trees.
Two trees from one
Plenty of homes run a green foliage tree in the living room and a lit twig tree in the hall or outside the door: the house shows a tree from the street with nothing extra to store. The twig trees are also what most people buy as a second tree for a child's room.
Common questions
Twig tree or microdot tree?
A twig tree copies a bare branching birch; a microdot tree is a cone frame. Both carry warm white LEDs along every stem and have no foliage.
Is a fibre optic tree pre-lit?
In effect, yes. One lamp in the base feeds optical fibres to every tip, so the branches carry no bulbs and nothing needs wrapping.
Which type is best value?
An unlit tree plus a separate light set is usually the cheapest way to a lit full-size tree, and the lights can be replaced on their own.
